Nasir-Ol Molk Mosque

History of Nasir-Ol Molk Mosque
The Pink Mosque is known by many popular names such as the " Pink Mosque ", the " Colorful Mosque ", the "Rainbow Mosque" or the "Kaleidoscope Mosque" is considered to be the most beautiful mosque of Iran.
In 1876, Mirza Hassan Ali Khan who was famous to be called Nasir-Ol Molk, Fars province ruler, decided to leave a mosque as a memory of himself for the next generations. He was the son of Ghavam-Ol Molk and one of Qajar noblemen and known to be a just and fair ruler. Accordingly, he constructed the mosque and the construction was finished after 12 years in 1925. But there were no glasses with distinct colors or special doors and windows until 1969 when these beauties were added to the structure of the mosque by Haj Mirza Ayat.
Nasir al Mulk Mosque is famous for its exquisite colored tiling and wonderful stained glass of the winter prayer hall. The mosque has two western and eastern prayer halls. The western prayer hall is the most beautiful part of the mosque. It’s where you can see the most eye-catching features. Western prayer hall has 12 carved columns, Colorful tiles in the ceiling and walls, and stained glass windows. It has seven wooden doors with stained glass too. The Eastern prayer hall is not as beautiful as the western one. It has a museum and a door opens into the Gav Cha (Cow Well), in which cows walked downhill to raise the water.

The Architecture of Nasir-ol-molk Mosque
Nasir-ol-molk Mosque is built on an area of 2,890 square meters and has a foundation of 2,262 square meters. The characteristic feature of the Nasir-ol-molk Mosque is its eye-catching tile work, decorations and paitings which is clearly the effects of the school of Isfahan, and is thus considered the most valuable mosque in Iran. A point that is significant about this mosque compared to other Iranian mosques is the absence of a dome in this mosque, which indicates that this religious building was quite personal and was not used by the public at the time of its construction.
The mosque’s tile work is very spectacular, because these tiles are known as seven color tiles, and you cannot find anything like them elsewhere in the world, precisely because of the use of pink color as the predominant color of these tiles that this mosque is known as the Iran’s pink mosque. The Mogharnas of the Pink Mosque is also unique in its kind and its elegance is exemplary. Mogharnas is an art that has been very much appreciated in the architecture of Iran about 150 years ago. But apart from the main structure of the nave, the seven color tiles and Mogharnas, the most enchanting component of the prestigious Nasir-ol-molk Mosque is the colorful glass that you can sit and watch in amazement with the light during the proper hours, because along with all these beauty, Nasir-ol-molk Mosque in Shiraz gives us its last gift, with its western nave windows.
